Attackers spread malicious software through social networks, gaining access to information on computers and smartphones.

A cross-regional group of hackers distributed malware via social media. This was reported by the SBU on Friday, May 21.

"Special service operatives found that viruses were embedded in popular programs, in particular, to promote the site on Instagram and applications for smartphones. The viral program code opened access to information stored on computers and mobile devices, including usernames and passwords. ", - said in the message.

In particular, cybercriminals posted download links for infected programs in descriptions under various videos and in social media communities.

“It is documented that one of the hackers worked for a Russian customer who provided access to a secure server in the Russian Federation. The server was used as an infrastructure for developing viruses and exchanging technical tasks and ready orders. According to preliminary data, the malware stole logins and passwords that gave access to to financial information. The Russian side paid for the order with bitcoins, "- added to the SBU.

Previously, cybercriminals created and administered a specialized forum, a Telegram channel, and a bot. They were used by representatives of the hacker environment to buy and sell personal data.

"In particular, for trading accounts, logs, copies of passports of Ukrainian citizens, passwords for accessing profiles on the Olx website, electronic wallets such as Qiwi and Yandex, video hosting Youtube," the SBU explained.

During searches at the places of registration and residence of hackers, law enforcement officers seized computers and mobile terminals that were used to carry out illegal activities.

After carrying out the necessary examinations and other investigative actions, it is planned to inform the defendants about the suspicion of committing the relevant crimes. The pre-trial investigation continues.
