The service stored the personal files of Firefox users in the browser cache even after the site was closed or closed.
Twitter has reported a vulnerability in its platform that affects users of the Firefox browser. As it turned out, the service stored personal user files in the Firefox cache, a folder where sites should store information and files temporarily. However, after the user closed the Twitter site or logged out, his personal files still remained in the cache, and anyone could get access to them.
Twitter warns its users sharing computers with someone else that their files could remain in the Firefox cache and be accessible to strangers. In particular, private messages, archive files downloaded from the profile settings page, etc., were stored in the cache. If the computer was infected with malware, it could also access them. Fortunately, Firefox deletes cache data older than seven days, so older files were not saved.
“If you use or used a public or shared computer to access Twitter, we urge you to clear your browser’s cache before exiting and be wary of personal information downloaded to computers that other people also use,” the Twitter notification said.
Currently, the company has already fixed the vulnerability described above, and Twitter no longer caches nonpublic information. The problem does not affect users of other browsers, including Safari and Chrome.
